Winter may have finally arrived on HBO’s TV series but for those waiting for the ‘Winds of Winter’, the next installment in George RR Martin’s ‘A Song Of Ice and Fire’ series the wait goes on. The good news though is that while there isn’t any guarantee that Martin will finish “The Winds of Winter” this year, we’ll still be getting a new ASOIAF story in 2017.

There may only be seven episodes in Season 7 of HBO’s “Game of Thrones”, but it seems like we’ll still have enough content to deal with our hunger as George R.R. Martin, the devious mind behind the series is writing a short story set in the world of Ice and Fire for an upcoming fantasy anthology titled “Book of Swords.”

According to an Amazon blurb:

“Fifteen original tales celebrating fantasy’s golden age of sword and sorcery, including a new story from George R. R. Martin set in the world of ‘A Game of Thrones”

While this is exciting news this may just be the icing on the cake should we finally receive “The Winds of Winter” the sixth book in the epic fantasy series which Martin has been working on since way back in 2011. Many fans are desperately hoping that this is finally the year that the book comes out and while Martin himself is pretty optimistic, he was the same last year as well.

“I think it will be out this year,” he said on his blog, but then he did indeed add the possibility of another delay by adding in “But hey, I thought the same thing last year.”

With season 7 of HBO’s wonderful adaptation set to hit our screens in mid-2017 and a potential couple of additions for the bookworm audience, 2017 could be a very interesting year.
