Since its release on last Tuesday, Doctor Strange has been successful with huge numbers and bright colors! The movie that stars our very favorite Beneditch Cumberbatch as the lead made an amazing £70 million since it opened.
A report on Deadline said, “A combination of interest in the fresh character, the visual effects and Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular Sorcerer Surpeme helped the Doctor prescribe what is the best offshore opening of the fall season.”
In international markets, Doctor Strange was way ahead of its Marvel equivalents; 49% ahead of Ant-Man, 37% ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy, and 23% ahead of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In one week, Doctor Strange made £10 million in UK and Ireland- this opening was 33% bigger than Ant-Man and 3% bigger than Guardians of the Galaxy. The largest opening was in Korea where the surgeons movie made £15 million- this was the biggest opening weekend in Marvel history.
This Marvel originated story broke IMAX records which makes it the biggest international opening in the format for October EVER! It beat Oscar-winning starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullocks Gravity as well! Now the question is whether it’ll cross the $1 billion target?? We can’t wait to find out!!
