Xbox One X Wont Sell Well Because It Costs Twice As Much As A PS4 Says Michael Pachter

A lot has been made about the Xbox One X , with it being the most powerful console in existence and as Microsoft keeps on reminding its fans an “absolute beast of a console”. Yet there are those  who also think that the console is going to fail largely due to the fact that there are limited AAA exclusives for the Xbox One  to take advantage of its hardware prowess.Furthermore there have also been worries about the price of the console , as Phil Spencer and others at the Xbox Hierarchy have gone on to call it a premium console. Priced at $499 most casual gamers may indeed find it a bit on the expensive side.

In a recent episode of Pachter Factor renowned analyst Michael Pachter said that he believes that the Xbox One X would fail not because it has limited exclusives, but because it costs twice as much as the PS4 does. Here is what he had to say

“I think it won’t sell so well because it cost twice as much as  PlayStation 4,” Pachter said. “I mean I think that’s the easy answer and you know again PlayStation 4 and Xbox One S are nominally are priced at $299 and they’re pretty regularly discounted to $249 and they are almost always bundled with something so the $299 version you kind of have to be a moron to pay $299 for a console now and not get a piece of software for free which does have a perceived value of 50 bucks.”

He further went on to say that the value proposition at the price was just not there. For $100 extra you can buy both the base Xbox One and PS4 with a free piece of software, and hence he does not believe that from a marketing standpoint it would work out for the Xbox One X.

However as previously stated that the Xbox One X has been placed as a premium console. The question now is whether the consumer sees it in the same way , and that’s where the challenge lies for Microsoft to influence consumer perception.
