Blizzard entertainment have cooked up a treat for fans of Symmetra, with the support hero set to receive a buff in an update in November after it was confirmed by Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan.
If you’re a competitive Overwatch player, there’s a probability that you may have noticed there aren’t many Symmetra players in the higher rankings. Apparently Blizzard has taken note of this as well, and will provide buffs to the character in next month’s update.
Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan stated in an interview with Business Insider, that changes to Symmetra are definitely on the agenda. Kaplan said that Symmetra is one of Overwatch‘s least played heroes, but he also believes that this statistic may be dubious.
“What happens commonly is players will play her on defense on the first part of a point, and then when they’ve lost that point, then they’ll switch off of Symmetra. So, that definitely impacts her play time when you’re looking at the stats.” Kaplan said on the support character’s apparent lack of use.
Kaplan also commented that a character like Symmetra isn’t too appealing, which certainly indicates that Blizzard will have a good look at any changes to the hero before making a decision on how to buff her. Any pending changes are likely to only be active in November, due to a number of other balancing issues higher on the list with Kaplan and the team currently looking at balancing Ana, Widowmaker, and Junkrat.
With Symmetra being the only support character that does not possess any sort of heal, Blizzard may look to raise the amount of shielding she can grant to her allies. Another option could be to reduce the charge time for her ultimate, in order to get more teleporters up to keep her team in the action, while also making the character a bit more useful from an attacking perspective.
