My 10 Best Full Home Renovation Companies in London for 2026

I’ve been looking closely at the London home renovation market, and one thing quickly becomes obvious: choosing a renovation company is much harder than finding one.

There are hundreds of builders, design-and-build firms and renovation specialists. They can look similar online, but the service you actually get can be very different.

So I’ve narrowed it down to the 10 companies I’d personally have on my shortlist for a substantial full-home renovation in London. I’ve looked at their services, specialisms, customer feedback and how they approach the renovation process.

I haven’t personally hired every company below, so this isn't pretending to be something it isn't. It's my researched shortlist based on the information currently available.

My pick for: A traditional all-round renovation service.

London Renovation Company would be high on my list if I wanted a conventional company capable of dealing with most parts of a substantial renovation.

They cover areas including architectural design, structural engineering, interior design, carpentry, plumbing, electrics and general building work.

I like the breadth of the service. If you're renovating an entire property rather than one room, having fewer gaps between different contractors can make life considerably easier.

2. houseUP

My pick for: Complete house refurbishment and major layout changes.

houseUP is another company I'd seriously consider for a full property renovation.

They specialise in substantial London refurbishments and projects where the layout and function of the property are being reconsidered rather than simply redecorated.

If I'd bought an older London property that needed stripping back and rebuilding into a modern home, houseUP would definitely make my quotation list.

3. Beams Renovation

My pick for: Homeowners who want more help navigating the renovation.

Beams is probably the most interesting company on this list because its model is slightly different.

Rather than operating purely like a conventional building contractor, Beams puts much more emphasis on planning the renovation before construction starts.

They work across full-home renovations, kitchens and bathrooms and can provide interior design and 3D visualisation. Once the project is properly defined, homeowners can be introduced to vetted builders and compare quotations for the work.

I particularly like this for someone renovating for the first time.

Finding three builders is easy. Understanding whether three completely different quotations actually include the same work is much harder.

Having a clearer project scope before comparing builders addresses that problem.

Where I think Beams stands out

I also think Beams makes particular sense for Victorian and other period properties where you may be changing several areas of the home simultaneously.

Would I use them for everything? Probably not. If I wanted an extremely cheap cosmetic refresh or simply needed a decorator and a few small repairs, the additional renovation structure would be unnecessary.

But for a £50,000+ renovation where I didn't already have a trusted architect, designer and builder, I'd absolutely speak to them.

4. NU Projects

My pick for: Premium design-and-build projects.

NU Projects would be on my list for a larger-budget renovation where architecture and interior design are particularly important.

They combine architecture, design and construction and have a strong presence around West and South West London.

I'd see them as particularly relevant for an expensive extension, major refurbishment or complete redesign rather than a straightforward cosmetic renovation.

5. NOVA Design & Build

My pick for: High-end renovations involving significant design work.

NOVA is another option I'd look at towards the premium end of the market.

They work across refurbishment, extensions and bespoke residential projects and combine design with construction and project management.

If the project involved significant structural alterations alongside a high-spec interior, NOVA would make sense on the shortlist.

6. Proficiency Design & Build

My pick for: Larger construction-heavy renovations.

Proficiency is an established London design-and-build company working across renovations, extensions, loft conversions and basements.

I'd particularly consider them where the project involves significant construction rather than being predominantly an interior refurbishment.

7. Plus Rooms

My pick for: Extensions.

Plus Rooms is slightly different because extensions are its obvious strength.

If I owned a Victorian terrace and wanted to build into the side return, extend the rear and completely rethink the kitchen and ground floor, I'd certainly get a quote from them.

If I wasn't extending the property, some of the other companies on this list would probably move ahead of them.

8. We Love Build

My pick for: A conventional design-and-build relationship.

We Love Build handles residential design and construction, including renovations and extensions.

I'd consider them if I wanted to appoint one design-and-build company rather than separately organising the different stages of the renovation.

9. Refresh Renovations

My pick for: Homeowners who want project management.

Refresh Renovations uses a renovation-consultant model, with a central person helping coordinate the different stages and professionals involved.

I can see the appeal for someone with a busy job who simply doesn't have the time or inclination to spend every day dealing with builders and suppliers.

10. Home Republic

My pick for: Luxury residential renovation.

Home Republic sits towards the premium end of the London market and works on substantial residential renovation and construction projects.

I'd consider them for a high-value property where finish quality, design and construction standards mattered considerably more than finding the cheapest possible route.

Which Would I Actually Contact?

If I was starting a full-home renovation tomorrow, I wouldn't simply contact number one and stop there.

I'd probably speak to three or four companies with different approaches.

For a conventional full-service contractor, I'd start with London Renovation Company. For a complete refurbishment with substantial layout changes, I'd look closely at houseUP.

I'd also speak to Beams because I like the idea of properly defining the renovation and comparing vetted builders rather than immediately committing to one construction company.

If my budget was particularly high and the project was architecture-heavy, I'd add NU Projects or NOVA.

My Final View

There isn't really one universally “best” renovation company in London.

A £30,000 flat refurbishment and a £500,000 transformation of a Victorian townhouse require completely different teams.

That's why I'd shortlist based on the project rather than simply choosing whichever company has the nicest website.

London Renovation Company, houseUP and Beams would be my three starting points for a substantial general home renovation. From there, I'd compare the proposed scope, previous comparable projects, reviews, contract, price and who I'd actually be dealing with throughout the work.

For extensions, I'd add Plus Rooms. For a particularly premium or architecturally ambitious renovation, I'd look more closely at NU Projects, NOVA, Proficiency and Home Republic.

Most importantly, I'd want the project properly defined before choosing purely on price. A cheaper quotation isn't cheaper if it excludes £20,000 of work that another contractor has already included.

How I Put This List Together

This is a researched personal shortlist rather than a claim that I have personally hired all 10 companies.

I looked at the renovation services each company currently offers, the types of London projects they undertake, their operating model and publicly available customer information.

If I were appointing any of them, I'd still check recent projects similar to mine, read current positive and negative reviews, verify insurance and carefully compare the proposed scope, contract and payment schedule.
