Ghost Rider made his long awaited appearance in this seasons Marvel agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. A new behind-the-scenes short film has been released by Marvel which shows Mark Kolpack the supervisor of visual effects breaking down the designing elements which went into coming up with a brand new look for the legendary Marvel anti-hero.
Irrespective of several incarnations within comics, the anti-heros typical look has usually been around the same pattern i.e. fire and skulls. However, the visual effects team on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. went an extra mile in order to detail Ghost Rider. Kolpack, VFX supervisor got used to going through the shows script and highlighting areas which would need the VFX skills of his team as well as execution of visual needs. But in the two minute video, Kolpack reveals that he himself was caught off guard as he was informed about Ghost Riders tackling in the show.
The video shows several interesting features and details which came about into creating the flaming visage of Ghost Rider for TV. During the shoot of the series, actor Gabriel Luna who plays the role of Robbie Reyes aka Ghost Rider wears a makeshift hood which is adorned with LED lights during his Ghost Rider scenes. The LED lights are designed in order to adjust to various color temperatures and also, permitting the yellow hues to correspond with the lighting of the real fire in a better way.
Additionally, Luna is shown wearing tracking markers on his face in order to let the animation team capture his emotions in a better way and also, put his expressions to the completed special effect. This feature for emotional tracking is best seen when Reyes’ eyes light up with fire and the animators ascertain special care in order to make expressions of Ghost Rider with the movement of the flames.
The most awesome detail is when Kolpack displayed a few fascinating design flourishes, such as the fact that the skull of the Ghost Rider features some vents which act similarly to the exhaust pipe of a car. This detail not only incorporates Ghost Riders passion for automobiles but also demonstrates the commitment of the team for his creation which was never before seen by fans. This is mainly due to Kolpack and team legit desire to creating a unique Ghost Rider which the audience and fans can emotionally connect to.
