It’s another month and the NPD data is here to analyze exactly who dominated sales whether it be hardware or software. Nintendo is still going strong in terms of hardware sales and it had the first and second spot on hardware list. Nintendo Switch topped the charts with the SNES Classic on the second spot (that outsold both the PS4 and Xbox One this month) and combining the sales of the 3DS, nintendo had more than 2/3 of sales in the hardware sector for October. This is the second month in a row that this has occurred so it is pretty impressive!
In terms of games, October was a huge month! Games like Super Mario Odyssey might have been released in October but it did not top the charts in game sales. The game is possibly GOTY material and is nominated for the a lot of different awards in that category.
The sequel to Warner Bros’ sleeper hit Shadow of Mordor, Shadow of War topped the game sales list along with Assassin’s Creed Origins being second. Super Mario Odyssey came third with Southpark: The Fractured But Whole right behind it.
These are the top-10 most sold games for October:
1) Middle Earth: Shadow of War
2) Assassin’s Creed: Origins
3) Super Mario Odyssey
4) South Park: The Fractured But Whole
5) NBA 2K18
6) FIFA 18
7) WWE 2K18
8) Madden NFL 18
9) Destiny 2
10) Forza Motorsport 7
It’s good to see that Nintendo is back in the console wars and that too with a bang. At launch many including myself were skeptical after Nintendo had released a console which lagged way behind in specs as compared to the PS4 and Xbox One . However Nintendo has managed to wow the gaming community with a hybrid console which oozes convenience and has a great software lineup.
It will be interesting to see how the Nintendo Switch performs in the NPD rankings in November.
