Nintendo Switch was released back in March 2017 and back then there was a lot of skepticism surrounding the console and some even wondered if Nintendo would ever make another console.
Many people thought that the Nintendo Switch would struggle to make a mark in this generation. This was largely due to the fact that the PS4 has dominated this generation while the Xbox One has taken second place , and both of the prior mentioned consoles are better in terms of raw power when compared with the Nintendo Switch.
No one apart from hardcore Nintendo enthusiasts had given Switch a chance, even after the console reveal there were many who thought Switch would just not be able to compete with the big boys.
Fast forward 9 months though and the scenario has changed completely . The Nintendo Switch has now sold 10 Million Units in a span of just 9 months. Here is the official statement from their Facebook page.
“Thanks to you, Nintendo Switch has sold 10 million units worldwide in just 9 months! We look forward to continuing the smiles in 2018!”
For comparison purposes the PS4 was launched back in the November of 2013 and in that year it went on to sell an estimated 2.1 Million units. While by the end of 2014 the PS4 stood somewhere around 18.3 Million units sold.
If we take the above stats in to perspective, it suggest that the Nintendo Switch might indeed be on its way to match the success of the PS4. Not bad for a console which many suggested would be an afterthought before launch.
With the holiday’s also just around the corner you can expect Nintendo Switch to be a top seller particularly in the US come Christmas. Most recently the Nintendo Switch was also the most ordered item online in the US on Black Friday.
Congratulations Nintendo on a brilliant 2017. Lets hope this continues in 2018 and beyond as well.
