An open world samurai game set in feudal japan is coming exclusively for the PS4 called Ghost of Tsushima. This is Sucker Punch’s brand new IP and the reveal trailer was just showcased at the Sony conference at Paris Games Week that is currently underway.
This comes after rumors were rife about a new IP that was seemingly in development , and Sony’s very own Shuhei Yoshida saying that a number of different titles were in the works for PS4
The trailer showed off Mongols capturing and tearing apart Japanese villages and a foreign invader asking one of the samurais to surrender. All we know at this point is what we got from the synopsis for the game from Sony (further details will be shared as they are revealed):
“The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan — until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But, honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting — the way of the Ghost — as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.”
The studio behind the legendary Sly Cooper series and the Infamous games are the ones leading the development for this project and there are definitely more exciting things to come regarding info for Ghost of Tsushima.
