Much has been made about Microsoft and the Xbox brand in particular as they have been behind the market leaders Sony for some time now. Sony’s PS4 has roughly sold twice the amount of units as Microsoft’s Xbox One. However we cant really be sure about the sales figures since Microsoft has ceased to publicly display this information.

However there are those that believe that Microsoft is making a recovery of sorts largely backed by the Xbox One X , for that to happen though you would think that they need a number of decent exclusives to even begin to challenge Sony and the PS4 at the top of the summit.

In a recent interview at Gameslab with Gamesbeat ex Microsoft and Sony executive Phil Harrison was asked whether it surprised him that Sony was ahead by 2 to 1 when it comes to console unit sales? Here is how he responded

“The thing Sony has done incredibly well over many years is build up a very powerful distribution network outside of the U.S. and the U.K. I don’t think people truly understand how powerful that is and how much effort it’s taken. That’s part of it. But I also think Sony was just very clear about their proposition. It’s a powerful game console, no ambiguity. That’s what they tried to sell. Microsoft had a more challenged message at the beginning. They’ve acknowledged that themselves. But I think Microsoft has made a fantastic recovery. It’s still to play for.”

Harrison does have a very valid point here , Sony’s dominance worldwide can certainly be accounted for its phenomenal success. While Microsoft has generated quite a buzz around the Xbox One X and seems to be on the recovery trail , I do believe much of it will depend on the exclusives that come out in the next year or so.
