For most companies to reap success, they must build a core competency which is different and inimitable. Marvel is one such company that has developed a core competency bringing in humor and action at the same time. Sony tried to copy this competency but couldn’t make much ground.
Looking at Thor’s trailer it seems apparent that Disney has brought in additional humor in the film. The humor seems to work quite well allowing Thor to generate an enormous opening weekend in October. Disney now seems to be using the same strategy for its Avengers franchise as well. Mark Ruffalo aka Bruce Banner/Hulk has revealed that the movie will be epic and funny.
Mark Ruffalo in an interview with the collider regarding the issue said that “It’s crazy. And it’s huge. And everyone’s in it. And it’s like this epic opera that spans time and space, with all of the Marvel characters in it. All nine franchises. I mean, it’s mind-boggling. Everyone has their moment to shine. Everyone is still their characters. Nobody feels like they’re doing any kind of exposition or having to push the story. It’s so well crafted. [Writers Christopher] Markus and [Stephen] McFeely smashed the script. And it has it all: it’s funny, moving… it’s epic. It’s a Russo brothers classic, like, balls to the wall, you know? It’s gonna be amazing. They’re so talented, and they’re great guys too.”
One thing that might be a challenge for Disney and Marvel would be to amalgamate the humor along with the depressing scenes. We all know that Thanos is the biggest threat that the Avengers have faced till date. We also know that many deaths including that of Captain America can be expected.
It will be interesting to see how the Avengers story arc can be concluded in the next few years. let us know your opinions by commenting in the comments section below.
